چکیده

17-11 ABSTRACT The breeding program has been conducted to improve the production and quality of napiergrass by crossing with related species or intraspecies. CV. TLG2 with high yields and water soluble carbohydrates have been selected and released. It produced 20% more forage yields and water soluble carbohydrates than cultivar, CV. A146 and persisted well at least for five years. Good silage was obtained when the CV. TLG2 was harvested at the right time. Milking ability is improved by use of silage and/or green chopping whole year round.

Implications of direct and indirect selection parameters for improvement of grain yield and quality components in Chenopodium quinoa Willd.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate direct and indirect selection criteria for the improvement of grain yield and quality components in Chenopodium quinoa Willd. Correlated response (CR) and relative selection efficiency (RSE) were estimated for grain yield and three quality components, grain protein, grain carotenoid and leaf carotenoid based on different contributing ...

Participatory breeding, an approach for sustainable production of new rice cultivars in Iran

Over the past 50 years, thousands of rice varieties have been introduced by plant breeders to agricultural communities all over the world. Despite the improvement of attributes such as grain yield and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, a significant portion of farmers still prefer local varieties over the improved cultivars. The main reasons for this perference are the absence of a dire...

Comparison of Aeroponics and Conventional Soil Systems for Potato Minitubers Production and Evaluation of Their Quality Characters

Two different propagation procedures including aeroponics and soil systems were compared for the minitubers production in potato. The minitubers were evaluated for several quality characters. The plant materials were from three cultivars, Agria, Marfona and Savalan. The plantlets were grown in aeroponics and soil production systems at a plant density of 100 plants per m-2 and stem length, root ...

Genetic diversity among tall fescue ecotypes using agro-morphological traits, nutritional values and AFLP molecular markers

This study was carried out to compare agro-morphological traits and nutritive value of 25 tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) ecotypes grown in Tehran, Iran. The experiments were carried out in a split plot design during 2016-2018 growing seasons. The results showed that there was a significant genetic variation in existing germplasm. The highest heritability was related to dry forage yi...
